The Swedish sibling duo of Tova and Sigge Strandell, also known as sixten, rose to fame after the release of their first EP, Chance of Rain. Since then, they have amassed critical acclaim for their work and have toured across Scandinavia and beyond. Their highly-anticipated sophomore EP, Misemotional, explores the cycle of relationships and the emotions that accompany these journeys.

Opening with “Misemotional”, sixten expresses their want for love through dreamy harmonies and echoey piano. This burning desire to find true love is repeated in “Losing Game” and “Ocean In Me”. These tracks show the confusion found in relationships, yet show sixten’s focus on finding the right person for them no matter the challenges they face.

In other songs, sixten focuses on the bitter reality of some partnerships. “Atlantic” sheds light on arguments and distrust between partners. The final track, “Living Comes With Dying”, is an emotional ballad that uses sweet strings and soft vocals to tackle feelings of loneliness and separation. While these songs mark memorable milestones in life, they unpack the pain and sadness found in those moments.

Misemotional can be a form of therapy for some. sixten shares vulnerable experiences in their lives and shows the world that it is normal to feel overwhelmed and confused in those situations. However, this EP shows listeners that they are not alone. Everyone will face obstacles that they don’t know how to face on their own. There will always be resources available to help process your feelings and learn how to move forward with them, which is what sixten discovers on the EP.

Sharing more about Misemotional, sixten comments:

“When tragedy strikes or love hits you hard, many emotions can surge. Sometimes you’re unsure whether to allow yourself to feel intensely and express it or to tone yourself down and bottle up your emotions. The songs on the EP reflect both extremes – one moment, you’re almost burning up, and the next, you’re frozen.”
