Chrissy Constanza is emulating the authentic essence of pop punk music in her latest single, “If Looks Could Kill.”

Known for her leading role in the pop rock band Against The Current, Costanza is ready to set off her solo career and showcase her unique musical direction. With just five singles under her belt, two of which belong to her upcoming debut EP VII releasing on October 9th, and with 3 billion streams across platforms, her much-anticipated reintroduction to the pop rock scene doesn’t disappoint following the release of “If Looks Could Kill.”

While Costanza is known for incorporating dark pop in her music, producers Gus Ross, Luke Eisner and Hosu utilized heavier guitars and drums on “If Looks Could Kill” to capture the energy of any pop punk fan’s favorite tune. Despite her detached identity from Against The Current, fans of the band and similar acts like PVRIS, Yours Truly, or Bishop Briggs can latch onto that familiar pop punk sound and high-register feminine vocals.

The new single details an all-consuming love and the thirst for someone. Costanza describes this song as follows:

“Inspired heavily by Romeo and Juliet, I wanted to capture that feeling of yearning for someone whose soul is so deeply intertwined with your own that you can no longer tell where one ends and the other begins. It’s the kind of love that feels predestined, as if you were meant to find each other in every lifetime.”

She captures the undying love through pining lyrics like, “lay to rest here in your arms till we turn to bone,” and, “I know it’s crazy but I think my death wish is you.” Despite the song’s grim symbolism in death, Costanza contrasts the finite state with the idea of rebirth throughout the song: “Wanna drown in your holy water make me brand new … Take me to heaven and right back again.” Fundamentally, this song captures an indescribable overwhelming spiritual and romantic desire.

While “If Looks Could Kill” is meant to be listened to head-banging to your car speaker, hearing the song live might be more than epic. Luckily, Costanza is set to join VOILA on the Spin the Bottle Tour this fall, hitting tons of cities across the United States, the United Kingdom and Europe. Be sure to catch Chrissy Costanza in a city near you this fall!

Somewhere at the intersection between my love for music and my love for writing lies my passion for music journalism. While the title still seems silly, the ability to capture an artist's creation and share it with the world will never cease to excite me. As a psychology student, I continue to be fascinated with the underlying mechanisms of the human condition. What better way to understand the human mind if not through a person's art?
