Lauren Reiner released “Ex’s Ex” on August 14 as the first single from her upcoming album All I Ever Do is Remember after a three-year hiatus from music. Throughout her pop-rock song, she playfully lists the flaws of her ex by suggesting that she become friends with her ex’s ex.
Over a chorus filled with layered, punchy guitars, Reiner sings that they can “fantasize about better men.” Throughout the song she jabs at her ex with lyrics like “I bet he overpromised / He’s got a savior complex” and “he’s no angel.”
In a humorous and frustrating bridge, the New York singer paints a scenario of the potential friends rejecting any future interaction with her ex: “Girls weekend on the beach / Worst boyfriend nominee / If he comes crawling back / We’ll just sit back and laugh.” Towards the very end, she cleverly calls her ex a terrible partner by crafting a strong, feminine character who’s moved on and is willing to bond with the next girl he’s wronged.
Reiner is coming back stronger than ever to release her album after battling an epilepsy diagnosis and recovering from a series of surgeries. She couldn’t listen to or create music while she prioritized her health. However, she is now ready to showcase the songs she wrote before her illness and ones that she began writing after recovering.
With a successful Kickstarter campaign to produce her album, Reiner is ready to actively release more music. According to updates from her campaign, she will release new singles from her album about six weeks apart so be sure to follow Lauren Reiner’s journey leading up to her debut album.
