Audrey Huynh stuns in third official single release, “apartment complex”

Date:

California-based indie artist Audrey Huynh dropped her newest single, “apartment complex,” on Aug. 16. This is Huynh’s second release of 2024, and her third official release ever. Despite having only three singles out, Huynh has amassed over 9,000 subscribers on YouTube and over 15,000 followers on Instagram. And, at just 18 years old, her music is beautifully reminiscent of standout artists like Gracie Abrams and Lizzy McAlpine.

Huynh said that in “apartment complex”, she navigates her feelings regarding a past relationship with someone she dated for a while. About the song, she added:

“I wanted to build off of the feeling of being stuck in something- whether that’s a relationship, a feeling, or an idea- while everyone else seems to be moving on just fine. I initially thought of the idea of an empty apartment to reflect that feeling, then I chose to build on the idea of someone taking up an entire apartment complex inside of my head to reflect how much I think about it. These lyrics feel so deeply personal and reflective of who I am as a writer and as an artist, and it was written about something that had a massive impact on my life for a while, so it feels like a send-off to that chapter to help me get closure.”

The track is seamlessly stunning, with soft piano chords accompanying Huynh’s silky-smooth voice. Her lyricism cuts deep into the listener’s heart, taking the audience to the very apartment complex she once was in.

Huynh reflected:

“This is a hugely personal and special song to me. I’ve been in the process of writing, reforming, and recording it for a few months now, and I’m so happy with how it turned out.”
