Singer-songwriter and TikTok sensation Caleb Hearn has once again showcased his emotive storytelling within his lyricism in his latest single “Warm Body.” This is the last single to be released before his debut album Left on McKinney.
His raw vocals accompanied by the indie-folk and pop-inspired instrumentals carry you through the song as you’re allured with his voice and almost look past the sense of longing in the lyrics. There is also a sense of vulnerability and anxiety within the lyrics that is conveyed as emotional guardedness to the listener. He articulates in the song a fear of getting too close, but still yearning for that human connection. He sings in the outro repeating the haunting chorus with a croak in his voice: “never starts or it always ends,” emphasizing the desire for closeness but the apprehension of possible heartache.
To accompany the single, Hearn also released a music video visualizing the emotional landscape of the song. The video opens with him strumming along on a acoustic guitar to later hitchhiking and being picked up in a red old-school convertible as he drives off far away from where the video had opened. The visuals only add to the complexity of the song exploring the topics of fear and love.
