When you have been in the dance and electronic scene as long as Laidback Luke has, you get to a point where you can share all you have learned with others. Over the years, he has scouted out artists like Avicii, Alesso, and Afrojack while expanding his reputation as a mentor and inspiration to the next generation. His impact has even been felt by his son marlonbeats, who has recently started getting into production and DJing. With marlonbeats turning 21 now, Laidback Luke saw an opportunity for them to celebrate by doing what they both love. The result is the release of their first track together, “One On One.”
A propulsive combination of house beats, tech pulses, lurking synth, and vibrant rhythms, “One On One” contains an energy that is only fitting for such a milestone birthday. The anthemic production keeps spirits at a high from start to finish, encouraging those who are out on the dance floor to keep moving. All the while, we hear lines like, “Metronomic / So iconic / Hurry up, don’t wait too long,” which add a sense of urgency to the track. The title of the track is also incorporated into the lyrics, reminding listeners that connection and spending time with those you love is essential.
About “One On One,” Luke explains,
“This song is my birthday gift to my son marlonbeats for his 21st birthday. He is what you would call a ‘Daddy’s Boy,’ but because of my intense career and abundant traveling, he has missed me most of his childhood. I’ve always tried to balance being a good dad with my DJ career, and it’s always been a juggling act. Interestingly, he started producing a few years ago, and while figuring this out by himself, he soon realized his dad is a real producer. Furthermore, he also started to DJ recently, and is only grasping now why I was always gone. This song embodies our time together. Us having quality time. Doing what we love most, while reconnecting as father and son. The least I could do for his coming-of-age is to make a track together, and we are proud to present it to the world.”
