Last Sunday screamed summer – a super sunny and not-too-muggy day to be outside soaking up all that Philadelphia had to offer. The TD Pavilion at The Mann was the place to be enjoying the rays at the city’s outdoor amphitheater. The venue was filled with fans excited to see LA’s Fitz and The Tantrums supporting O.A.R.
Since Fitz and The Tantrums’ release of 2022’s Let Yourself Free, including top singles “Moneymaker” and “Sway,” the band seemed delighted to be performing a mix of the new and old to a crowd ready to clap their hands.
Following a set from DJ Logic, the bands’ lead vocalists, Michael Fitzpatrick and Noelle Scaggs, were the first to enter the stage. From the get-go, the two of them brought an electric energy that brought audience members to their feet immediately. With James King on the sax, Blair Sinta on the kit, Jeremy Ruzumna on keys and Joseph Karnes on the bass, the setlist began with a high energy. Starting tracks included “Out of My League,” “Heaven,” and “OCD.” Scattered in the set were a variety of fan favorites, like “The Walker” and even a throwback with “Moneygrabber,” from Pickin’ up the Pieces released 14 years ago. Each song provided an opportunity for every member to have their moment, with “All The Feels” being dedicated to Noelle’s late sister. As phone flashlights went up, the audience fell silent for her.
It wouldn’t be a Fitz and The Tantrums concert if the band didn’t close out with their 2x Platinum single, “HandClap.” The amphitheater shook as thousands of people from the pit to the lawn jumped up and down, clapping and singing along to this electro pop hit with a touch of funk. The band will be supporting O.A.R for the remainder of the month, along with performances this fall, including Heineken Silver Live Out festival as well as a show at the Las Vegas Convention Center with Cage The Elephant.
