British electro pop artist Starling just dropped “Cool Girl”, the first song from her upcoming record. With an audience of over 30,000 followers on Instagram, Starling’s music is on the rise.
About the song’s release, Starling reflected in an Instagram post:
“This is the first song of my new record and I think I’m gonna save the ugly tears about my journey for the launch party tonight. This song makes the moment of me being *me* recovering from people pleasing or.. being the ‘cool girl’.. it’s cool to just *be you* be honest, and own it.”
In “Cool Girl”, Starling uses her breathy, angelic voice with sweet piano chords and synth beats to sing about how being a people pleaser is not for her. She embraces the identity of who she truly is, rather than who the world wants her to be. In doing so, she finds freedom, and in the lyrics recognizes that “It was never me / To be a cool girl”.
Part of the promotion for “Cool Girl” is Starling’s Cool Girl House Concert Tour, where she is offering to play bookings for hosts with at least 20 guests in attendance. The tour’s application states that “slots to host are booking up and the tour is near full”. The Google form to apply can be found on Starling’s LinkTree.
