The Smashing Pumpkins to release 13th album ‘Aghori Mhori Mei’ on Aug. 2

Date:

Following the release of Atum (2023), the rock band The Smashing Pumpkins are releasing a new album, Aghori Mhori Mei, on Friday, Aug. 2.

The band, which has undergone several changes over their three decades on the map, currently consists of Billy Corgan (lead/backing vocals, guitars, keyboards, bass), James Iha (guitars, bass, backing, occasional lead vocals) and Jimmy Chamberlin (drums).

Frontman Corgan said that this upcoming album will bring the group back to their earlier routes Gish, Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. In a statement, he said:

“In the writing of this new album I became intrigued with the well-worn axiom, ‘you can’t go home again’. Which I have found personally to be true in form but thought well, what if we tried anyway? Not so much in looking backwards with sentimentality but rather as a means to move forward; to see if in the balance of success and failure that our ways of making music circa 1990-1996 would still inspire something revelatory.”

Corgan stated that The Smashing Pumpkins will not release any singles off the forthcoming album.

Jeff Schroeder, who had been the guitarist for the band since 2006, announced his departure from the group on Jan. 5, 2024, via social media, stating they would be accepting applications via email for a replacement.
