Melodic Music Monday: July 22

Date:

Every Monday, we bring you a playlist filled with new tracks the Melodic staff has been listening to on repeat. Hear some of our latest obsessions below:

Jiwon, “autograph” – “Autograph” is about giving your all in a relationship. Through fun harmonies and layered percussion, Jiwon tells his partner that he would trade the world for the chance to be with them. The chorus sings, “I think I really want your photograph / Or maybe just a little autograph / But you don’t have to give my heart back” showing Jiwon’s obsession with his partner and his want to keep loving them.

– Emma Celenza

——

Role Model, “Scumbag” – Role Model contemplates moving forward, yet he hardly recovers from his hurt and pain in the self-deprecating track “Scumbag.” Here, he calls himself “a setback,” “a stain on the floor,” “a train wreck” and “a cigarette.” Refusing to be a savior, his simple melodies play smoothly over his breezy yet passionate vocal delivery. This otherwise upbeat track resonates with those struggling internally, fighting insecurities that eat away at them (“I’m a side that no one’s rooting for / But you stand by me”).

– Clare Gehlich

——

Beach Weather, “Hottest Summer on Record” – For anyone feeling the heat of the sun’s rays lately, “Hottest Summer on Record” could not have come at a better time. The single is filled with sizzling vocals, sweet melodies, and full downbeats, capturing the essence of a hot summer’s day. All the while, vocalist Nick Santino gives us nostalgic lyrics that touch on a burning memory.

– Christine Sloman

——

Zach Hood, “Fireflies & Southern Weather” – The single captures the essence of falling deeply and irrevocably in love. “Fireflies & Southern Weather” is the type of song that will become timeless and has the ability to transport you back to the moment you first felt a connection in your relationship. It’s for when you meet the love of your life: “You and I, we’re meant to be like open roads and gasoline / Maybe we were never meant to stray / You and I we go together / Fireflies and southern weather / Maybe things are better off this way”.

– Reagan Denning
