The Quebec Summer Festival lights up the Abraham Plains

Date:

The Quebec Summer Festival, also known as Festival d’été de Québec (FEQ), is one of Canada’s largest and most renowned music festivals, held annually in Quebec City. It takes place over 11 days in July, featuring a diverse lineup of music performances across various genres such as rock, pop, indie, electronic, and more.

This year’s line-up reflected the diversity of the global music scene. Artists such as Nickelback, 50 Cent, Jonas Brothers, Zac Brown Band, Post Malone, J Balvin and Mötley Crüe were on the bill, alongside audacious proposals such as Alexandra Stréliski’s neo-classical high mass, a gamble that succeeded in creating an unhoped-for communion between the highly talented artist and the gigantic audience on the Plains.

On Friday, July 11th, the day started with a performance by the talented Canadian group Valley on the Bell stage. The band took the main stage and performed a high energy set including their hits ‘’Have a Good Summer (Without Me)’’ and ‘’hiccup’’. Next up, the 19-year-old Nashville singer Jessie Murph delivered a mesmerizing experience from start to finish. Her set included fan favourites “Wild Ones” and “Texas” as well as some gracefully executed covers of ‘’S&M’’ and ‘’Stay’’ by Rihanna. Her melodious voice made for a perfect opening act for the much anticipated headliner. Performing at the Loto-Quebec stag, the well renowned band Kansas brought the crowd through a nostalgic journey with their iconic rock repertoire. The band showcased their timeless hits with precision and passion. From “Carry On Wayward Son” to “Dust in the Wind,” each song was performed with a blend of nostalgia and energy that resonated deeply with the audience. Closing the Bell stage, one of the most anticipated artists of the festival gave a memorable performance. Post Malone, known for his electrifying energy and diverse musical performances, his recent show was no exception. Post Malone’s setlist included hits from his albums like “Beerbongs & Bentleys” and “Hollywood’s Bleeding.” Delivering a great performance with captivating lighting, pyro and an abundance of fireworks, it is safe to say the festival-goers left with the most unique experience.

On Saturday, July 12th, Gale opened the main stage for the latin night of the festival. The Puerto-Rican’s stage presence was incredible and delivered a  captivating performance. Her set included her latest release “La Razón” as well as ‘’Nuestra Canción’’. Up next was the American singer-songwriter from California Ivan Cornejo. His set was different from the other acts of the night performing mostly ballads such as ‘’Està Dañada’’ and ‘’La Curiosidad’’. The Latin sensation J Balvin closed out the night in beauty, having the crowd jump and dance through his entire set and singing along to his hits “Mi Gente” and “No Me Conoce”. The visuals and stage production were dazzling, enhancing the immersive experience of his music. The barricade was filled with flags from various latin-american countries such as Mexico and Puerto Rico, but we could notice a large amount of Colombian flags as it is J Balvin’s home Country. Overall, J Balvin’s concert was a testament to his status as a global superstar and left everyone buzzing with excitement long after the final song.

The Quebec Summer Festival will be back in Quebec City next summer in July for another 11 days of music through the world.
