Elthia is an alt-pop songstress weaving in reimagined tropes of mythology on her latest release entitled “medusa”. Embracing her dark side, Elthia muses on the innate power of dark feminine energy and how a modern-day monster might interact with our world.
“medusa” shocks your system with riveting beats, choppy percussion, and slithering vocals that tap into the hypnotic energy at play. Elthia sings, “They call me Medusa, when I get them all alone / They call me Medusa, when their bodies turn to stone.” Paired with an electric music video where Elthia is portrayed as Medusa adorned with a 15-foot snake tail, she lures her victims to the woods before turning them to stone with her song. “medusa” offers a modern twist on a classic tale as Elthia channels the magnetic spirit of a mythical creature.
Revealing more on the inspiration for her music video, Elthia adds, “Inspired by the music videos of Lady Gaga and Michael Jackson, I wanted the video to act as a short film, enhancing the aesthetic and creating a visual world for the song to exist in. I made all of the costumes myself, including a 15-foot snake tail, an Iris van Herpen-inspired dress, and a full-body suit based on a venomous sea snake. The music video blends reality and fantasy, capturing the chilling aura of a monster story that could exist in the real world, right under your nose, waiting to be discovered.”
Elthia emerged with her viral debut “i love you but you make me cry” in October of 2020. She’s deeply inspired by elements of fantasy and makes components of the surreal a part of her music.
