The Linda Lindas have announced that their forthcoming album, No Obligation, will be released on Oct. 11 through their label, Epitaph. Alongside this announcement, the band has shared their new single “All In My Head” and its accompanying psychedelic music video, directed by James Wyatt.
Lucia de la Garza, who wrote and sings “All In My Head,” composed the track from the perspective of the unnamed protagonist in Ottessa Moshfegh’s 2018 novel My Year of Rest and Relaxation. The novel follows this character in New York City as she starts using prescription medications to sleep for an entire year, seeking a sense of “rest and relaxation.”
In a press release, de la Garza spoke about the inspiration behind “All In My Head”:
“I wrote ‘All In My Head,’ from the perspective of a book character, which kinda brought us out of our comfort zone. It felt like a break from reality, which we don’t usually find ourselves writing about.”
No Obligation is the second full-length release from The Linda Lindas, further cementing their presence in post punk, garage rock, power pop, new wave and rock en español. Along with de La Garza, the group currently consists of Eloise Wong (bassist), Mila de la Garza (drummer) and Bela Salazar (guitarist), all of whom are still completing their studies. The new album has been in development for the past two years, following their critically acclaimed debut album, Growing Up (2022), which received praise from The New York Times and Pitchfork.
