Alt-pop princess, Remi Wolf, is back with her highly anticipated sophomore album, Big Ideas. Known for her unparalleled musical talents and catchy songs, Big Ideas plays on Remi Wolf’s unique sound and adds more emotional depth. Written during a time of transition in her life, Big Ideas is an exploration of who Remi Wolf was, is, and what she wants to become.

Opening with “Cinderella”, we are reintroduced to Remi Wolf’s iconic style of funky percussion, groovy bass, and layered, soulful harmonies. Here, we explore the uneasiness and uncertainty in Remi Wolf’s life. While “Cinderella” focuses on never-ending fluctuations of emotions, songs such as “Alone in Miami” and “Pitiful” reflect on her habits and question whether they are helpful or hurtful to her.

These feelings are juxtaposed throughout the album, where songs such as “Soup” and “Motorcycle” show her desire to improve herself. Remi Wolf seems to gain confidence in high-energy tracks such as “Toro” and “Kangaroo”. Towards the end of Big Ideas, Remi Wolf asks herself how she truly wants to live her life. Does she want to be stuck in her cycle of anxiety? Or does she want to find herself?

Through steady acoustic guitar, Remi Wolf evaluates her life on “Just the Start”. She wants to hide from her problems but knows she needs to face them head-on to improve her lifestyle. Lyrics such as “And the thing about getting caught / Is you think it’s the end but you know that it’s not / It’s just the start” show her shift in perspective as she becomes more willing to change her life.

Big Ideas is a message to listeners to learn about themselves. While Remi Wolf begins the album venting about the unpredictability of her emotions, she ends the album with her most confident song yet, “Slay Bitch” which celebrates the positive aspects of her life. Big Ideas encourages those finding themselves to practice self-love and recognize their incredible milestones.
