Marianas Trench released their newest single, “I’m Not Getting Better”, on July 12. Active since 1999, the band keeps getting better and better. Their pop punk sound has amassed an enormous following, with over 42 million streams on their top Spotify listing, “Stutter”.
“I’m Not Getting Better” follows “Lightning and Thunder”, released earlier in May this year, and “A Normal Life”, which was the band’s first single in five years, released this year in April.
Fans have remained loyal since the band’s five year halt on new releases, with Instagram comments about the band’s return reading “I’m so happy you’re back, can’t wait to see you in the UK again!” (@jaemesmori), and “I’m telling everyone I hate to see you guys underrated!! Canadian heroes in music with this one guy. Been listening since I was like 10 and masterpiece came out. This song is exactly what I wanted to hear from yall. So excited for the album,” (@itsrovvan).
“I’m Not Getting Better” is a poignant track with lyrics that express feelings of hopelessness and dejection. Lead singer Josh Ramsay sings “I know I should stay, I should stay away / So what? / Maybe I’m not getting better”. The lyrics themselves contrast with their bouncy delivery and overall lighthearted sound, reinforced with upbeat drums and dancy background vocals.
Marianas Trench will embark on their first US tour in 5 years, the “Force of Nature Tour” starting Sept. 12 at the UC Theatre in Berkeley, California.
Ticket information can be found on the band’s official website.
