The Coronas and Gabrielle Aplin Release Tender Duet, “That’s Exactly What Love Is”

Date:

Irish indie-pop band The Coronas released their latest track, a collaboration with Gabrielle Aplin, on July 5. The single, “That’s Exactly What Love Is”, is from their eighth studio album, Thoughts & Observations, set to release on Sept. 27. This song is the band’s second collaboration with Aplin, having first worked together in 2020 on “Lost In The Thick Of It”.

The Coronas’ longevity in the music industry is something to note about the band– their last three albums have hit the number one spot in Irish charts, and they have sold out their latest overseas tours in the United States, Australia, and Canada. Furthermore, the music video for “That’s Exactly What Love Is” has already hit over 8,000 views on YouTube since its premiere on July 5.

“That’s Exactly What Love Is” is a touching duet that plays as a conversation between a male and a female voice. Somber piano chords underline wistful lyrics as the two try to discern what the other really wants, and as they try to reckon with their relationship’s end.

About the song’s story, lead singer Danny O’Reilly said:

“I suppose there’s a lot of emotion and trauma in the lyrics, from both points of view. Trying to sing about myself through the eyes of someone else was cathartic and something I’d never done before.”

The song bursts into a lovely layered production as it approaches its close. “That’s exactly what love is” is heard over and over again, fading out with their relationship.

The Coronas are set to begin a string of touring on Friday, July 12, at the MGM Music Hall in Boston and ending Saturday, Dec. 28 at the INEC in Killarney, Ireland. Ticket information can be found on the band’s official website.
