Chloe Southern Rediscovers Herself in “This Time Last Year”

Date:

Singer-songwriter Chloe Southern explores the terrifying realization of growing up in her latest single, “This Time Last Year”. The first single from her upcoming EP, “This Time Last Year” marks the end for all toxic ex-lovers.

The track was written through several major changes in Chloe Southern’s life, from graduating college, moving to New York, and losing her sense of self following a major breakup.

About this time in her life, Chloe Southern said:

“All of a sudden I woke up in the middle of my own life and didn’t recognize it or myself. And it’s honestly so scary and heartbreaking to admit that.”

In the track, Chloe Southern emphasizes the importance of reclaiming your own life without the person you thought you would build it with. She allows herself to be angry while she grows, and speaks her mind without fear.

About the track’s title, she said:

“This time last year I was still a kid, spiraling out of innocence and into the offensive reality of being on my own. numb and self-destructive. What happens when all of a sudden you wake up in the middle of my own life and don’t recognize it or yourself? Sometimes things are not what they were promised to be, and people aren’t who they promised they were.”

Chloe Southern’s graceful yet fierce voice and poignant lyricism shine in this track as she recounts how things have changed. Edgy drum beats stress her anger as she ramps up the energy, letting her feelings see the light of day. This song is sure to resonate with fans of Suki Waterhouse, Alanis Morissette, and beyond.
