JJ Wilde has always had a strong connection with music, which inspired her to pursue it throughout her life. When left with the choice to abandon music or work towards making it a career, she chose to release her debut EP, Wilde Eyes and Steady Hands, and stirred up the attention of millions. On her latest single, “Takes Me Back”, JJ Wilde reminisces on her past using music.
“Takes Me Back” focuses on reflection through Bruce Springsteen’s music. Through leading guitar and steady drums, we learn how Springsteen’s instrumentals and lyrics relate to important moments in JJ Wilde’s life, creating a strong connection between her adolescence and his music. Lyrics such as “The sound of Springsteen flows right through me, Born To Run / It’s a time machine every time he sings she’s the one / It takes me back just like that” show this relationship between JJ Wilde and Springsteen’s music as she grew up.
Sharing more about “Takes Me Back”, JJ Wilde comments:
“’Takes me back’ is meant to feel like a trip back in time… To me the song is all about nostalgia and all the things that remind me of home. I picture summer nights in Canada when i was a teenager running from the cops through neighbours backyards after parties broke up. It reminds me of the smEll of wet pavement after it rains. Listening to Bruce Springsteen in my first apartment because [it’s] Inspired by Bruce SpringSteen playing loudly in my parents living room. When I’m on the road and missing home I think of specific things and it feels like I’m in Kitchener again.”
