Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Leila Broussard, best known as Jupiter Winter, released her latest single, “We Are Not Machines”, yesterday. Making music with her creative partner and husband Royce Whittaker since 2015, Broussard weaves her deepest emotions into a carefully crafted sound. Often in her music, Broussard explores themes of love, mental health, and self-discovery.
Having served as a musical director for famous artists including Megan Thee Stallion and Daniel Caesar, Whittaker is no stranger to the world of professional music. In addition to Jupiter Winter, both Broussard and Whittaker are members of synthwave band The Midnight, where they contributed heavily to top tracks such as “Monsters” and “Heroes”.
Written in 2020 at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, “We Are Not Machines” examines themes of loneliness, isolation, and fear. Broussard’s lyrics accept the present moment, good or bad, as she sings “One day it’s gonna get better / We’ll find a way to ease the pressure / One day it’s gonna get better / But not right now”.
As a duo, Broussard and Whittaker have given Jupiter Winter meaning that goes much deeper than a single song. Throughout the entire project, they channel the vulnerability of two lives intertwined, creating a unique sound that electrifies listeners.
Broussard and Whittaker posted on Instagram @jupiterwinterband upon the release of “We Are Not Machines”:
“We are so thrilled to finally put We Are Not Machines out in the world today. Listen wherever you get your music and let us know what you think in the comments.”
