Ray Levier Explores New Beginnings with “Uncharted Destiny”

Date:

Professional drummer, composer and producer Ray Levier has released his latest single “Uncharted Destiny”, a highly dynamic blend of intricate rhythms and melodies that cement his reputation as a versatile musical force.

Known for his precision across jazz fusion, rock, hip-hop, and singer-songwriter styles, Ray’s new track displays his multifaceted talent, not just as a drummer, but as a visionary composer.

“Uncharted Destiny” takes listeners on a vivid journey through Ray’s musical landscape, marked by dynamic shifts and compelling rhythmic progressions. His adaptability and deep understanding offers an enticing glimpse into his evolving artistic journey.

Reflecting on this new release, Ray shares:

“This song is about embracing uncertainty and discovering our true selves in the vastness of the universe. It’s about finding strength in adversity, rising from challenges, and creating new beginnings.”

“Uncharted Destiny teaches us that every leap of faith can lead us closer to understanding our place in the cosmos.”

It’s about new beginnings that are forged in the crucible of personal struggle and resilience.

Based in Nyack, New York, Ray has spent over 20 years as a key sideman to urban folk and jazz artist KJ Denhert. He co-founded a thriving music production company, creating TV tracks for major networks like TLC, Discovery, FOX Sports, and National Geographic.

Ray’s impressive career includes recording with jazz fusion legends Mike Stern and John Abercrombie and studying at William Paterson College under the legendary bassist Rufus Reid. He has refined his craft under the guidance of renowned musicians like Keith Crane, Sal LaRocca, and Adam Nussbaum.

His story of perseverance is truly inspiring. At the young age of only 12 he suffered severe burns in a camping accident, losing most of his fingers. Determined to keep drumming he improvised ways to hold drumsticks using duct tape, a martial arts glove, and eventually underwent surgery to restore the use of his thumb. Ray’s relentless dedication led him to master various musical styles, from jazz fusion to rock, funk, Latin, blues, and hip-hop.

Ray’s journey is featured in the documentary “It’s Who You Know,” the musician web series “Encore,” as well as an upcoming feature in Drumhead magazine. His mantra is simple: with hard work and determination, anything is possible. As a teacher and clinician, Ray combines rigorous study with insights from his personal experiences, using technology to teach students worldwide.

As a solo artist, Ray has released two albums: “Ray’s Way” (2009), featuring jazz fusion greats and showcases his original compositions, and “Lost and Found” (2018) which highlights his soulful vocals and poignant lyrics in a pop-rock context. He is currently working on a third album, returning to his jazz-fusion roots.

Reflecting on his accomplishments, Ray remains humble. “A lot of what I’ve been able to do has been based on staying positive and being stubborn,” he says with a laugh. “If you never give up and keep banging your head against that wall, you’ll break through.”
