Aisha Badru Defies Societal Standards in “A Little Mad”

Date:

Indie folk artist Aisha Badru released her latest single, titled “A Little Mad”, on June 14. Since her start in 2018 with the release of debut album Pendulum, Badru presented herself as introspective and understated – now, she’s made it clear that she also intends to do everything with purpose, as she says she is “rewiring [her] mind”.

In “A Little Mad”, Badru sings about overcoming societal expectations and breaking free from generational standards. In the song’s chorus, she sings “We’re all a little mad, ain’t we? We’ve all been feeling bad lately”. Further in the song, Badru touches on topics including social media’s impact on self-image, singing “Yet the more we are connected / The more that we feel alone”.

Badru’s soft, delicate voice paired with somber piano notes makes her message even more heartfelt. The piece is overall very poignant, and is resonant with a modern audience that may often feel consumed by the world on the Internet.

About the song’s meaning, Badru said:

“This song reflects my observations of modern times. We’re born into a system we’re conditioned to accept, even if it fuels our struggles. In many ways, we’re trapped by our own compliance. But this song isn’t about giving up. As an artist, my key message is: we can break free from these norms that deprive us of wellbeing. We can change our lives, and by extension, the world around us.”

“A Little Mad” is expected to be followed by a new complete album, which Badru said is coming soon. Until then, her most recent release can be found across all streaming platforms.
