There are people out there who plan for success and there are people out there who find success by accident. Take Minneapolis alternative artist Landon Conrath. In 2020, Landon released his debut single, “Pieces.” He was pretty sure that it wasn’t going to take off, and he felt fairly confident that he wasn’t going to make it as a songwriter. In the end, “Pieces” accumulated 14k plays in a day, which inspired Landon to keep going. Fast-forward to today and he not only has a new album coming out soon, but he has also completed his first ever headline tour with several sold-out dates in places like New York City, Boston, and LA. If you aren’t too familiar with this rising sensation, you can get acquainted with Landon right here and now, starting with his new single “Will Nye.”
A classic Landon single with splashes of different genres, irresistible melodies, and smart lyrics, “Will Nye” is one of the more pleasant tracks out there about cutting ties. Throughout the track, Landon calls out someone who he can no longer consider a friend. He sings, “Was it all made up? / Am I friends with just a pay stub? / You’re not a saint / Just a reminder to my face / That you waste my time.” He takes one last jab in the bridge, singing, “I’m right, you’re wrong / But for the sake of this song / I guess I forgive you and I should move on / And I’ve never lied in one of my songs until now.” Even though the lyrics are somewhat on the harsh side, the music stays cool and collected, its deep grooves, seamless blend of styles, and Landon’s soaring vocals taking hold.
Back in May, Landon announced ‘Employee of the Year,’ alluding to a new album and tour. The album is set to drop in the fall, with a date TBD. Meanwhile, the tour will kick off in September in Indianapolis, Indiana, and will conclude in November in Des Moines, Iowa. About the album and tour, Landon shared on social media,
“Full length album and shows in the fall with singles coming sooner. Feeling more locked in on the live set than I ever have, and feeling so ready to begin to share this new music with all of you. See you in the fall!”
You can listen to “Will Nye” on platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, and Apple Music.
