Ginger Winn’s latest single “Averna” is a smooth and optimistic-sounding acoustic rumination on infatuation that goes down just as smoothly as a glass of the song’s namesake.
Winn opens the song with the sweet flutter of guitar strums as she sets the scene for her story. She describes having a “scrunched up nose” and references “dusty records” and “barley and bobbins”. The singer’s voice is just as airy as the guitar instrumentation behind it, and slides along, cascading over consonants and flying up and down with grace. She instructs her subject to “Pin the photo / Grab the brush / Sharpen the pencil”, as she admits “I’m talking a little too much”. The South Carolina native possesses a sugary attitude as she pleads, “just say my name”, with a demeanor that sounds as sunny as a mid-June day.
Clocking in at just over three minutes, Winn uses layers of sweet humming to enclose the listener in her sweet acoustic sounds fit for a warm summer day. Unsure of what’s to come in her future, the singer assures “I need to go / I’ll write you from Papiro”.
You can listen to “Averna” on platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music.
