Nashville-based singer-songwriter Isabel Pless just released her self-titled track, “Isabel”. Writing songs since the age of 12, Pless takes inspiration from Alanis Morissette, The Chicks, and Joni Mitchell. Since taking off on TikTok in 2020, the young artist has found incredible success in her career. Her 2023 EP Bad Luck Letting You Go garnered over 1.4 million streams across all platforms, earning spots on Spotify’s New Music Friday and All New Indie playlists. With her platform, Pless hopes to redefine the role of a singer-songwriter in an era heavily influenced by social media.
“Isabel” is the first track from Pless’s debut album, and it is one dedicated to herself. In the song, Pless explores an inner monologue focused on people-pleasing. She sings “I’ve been trying to find the time / To find myself”, and examines the dichotomy between being herself and still being interesting to others. Eventually, she finds grace in imperfection, singing “Isabel / You don’t have to change your mind”.
Pless gives the song a deep sense of raw emotion, as her voice is accompanied by a simple acoustic background. Her style resembles that of indie artists Lizzy McAlpine and Phoebe Bridgers. “Isabel” is not a track to miss from the self-proclaimed “word girl”, Isabel Pless.
