Gracie Abrams is ready to sacrifice everything to be “Close To You” in new single

Date:

Wouldn’t you give up everything just to be close to that one person you care about? Gracie Abrams is betting on giving up everything to be “Close To You” in her newest single, the second release off her sophomore album, The Secret of Us

“Close To You” first appeared as a snippet on Instagram seven years ago and was never originally intended to be included on the album. However, fans have been craving it ever since, and now it’s finally ours.

The song is intense and passionate, delving into the obsessive feelings of longing and desire. And what are secrets between two people, anyway? In “Close To You,” Abrams is willing to sacrifice everything for a chance to be that special someone. In the verses, she describes being in a dark, smokey and crowded room, where a sudden and powerful connection ignites this burning desire within her. She falls fast — and hard, singing, “I burn for you / And you don’t even know my name / If you asked me to / I’d give up everything.”

Abrams’ feelings are uncontrollable, but her vivid imagery makes this attraction easily palpable. She fixates on this person, desperate to be close. She sings, “To be close to you / Pull the trigger on the gun I gave you when we met / I wanna be close to you / Break my heart and start a fire, you got me overnight / Just let me be.”

To feel close to someone is one thing; to actually be close is another. In “Close To You,” Abrams captures the sacrifice, uncontrollable desire and longing that come with this emotional intensity.
