Revealing more on her track, Mae confides, “Growing up in church and the evangelical movement, the only representation of LGBTQ+ people that I was familiar with were the kids who got kicked out for being queer. Even though my first crush was on a girl, I hid the truth of what that meant to protect myself from losing my entire community. This is why visibility is profoundly important to me.”
Heather Mae is committed to uplifting female and queer voices and shedding light on the disparities – particularly between male and female producers – within the music industry. Females only make up about 4% of music producers. To counteract this shocking statistic, Heather Mae has developed a group of female artists and producers in Nashville to fight back against the status quo.
