Holding Hour tells hauntingly relatable story in new single “Come Undone”

Date:

Founded in 2021, Holding Hour creates a sickeningly sweet shoegaze and dream pop mashup on their new single “Come Undone.” Marissa Kephart’s hauntingly beautiful vocals carry the story of someone changing themselves for love and beginning to lose who they are in the process. The lines “change my shape to fit with you” and “I could never be your one” directly contrast each other. These two differing viewpoints show how lost the narrator is within themselves and their relationship.

The instrumentation creates a flowing sound that propels forward with emotion. Towards the end of the song, there is a swell where the instruments get louder and more abrasive. This change in atmosphere helps to reflect the story of the song, this particular section being where the narrator has the realization that they have changed into someone they do not recognize.
