Joshua Bassett announces debut album ‘The Golden Years’ and releases nostalgic title track

Date:

What are the golden years anyway? Joshua Bassett announced his debut album, The Golden Years, yesterday, alongside the release of the album’s title track. After releasing a few EPs since his debut in 2021, Bassett’s highly-anticipated album is arriving this summer on July 26 via Warner.

Bassett wrote on his Instagram on Friday when he announced it, “THE ALBUM. THE GOLDEN YEARS. JULY 26.”

The title track, “The Golden Years,” also released on Friday, was written a year ago and delves into the bittersweet nostalgia of a long-lost love that you can’t get back.

In “The Golden Years,” Bassett confronts the raw pain of loss, reflecting on a past relationship with deep regret and longing. Bassett uses vivid imagery and memories of his youth to emphasize his nostalgia. Through lyrics like, “If I would’ve known / Those were the golden years / I would’ve held you longer that night when you kissed me goodbye through your tears,” he capitalizes on the intimacy of lost love.

“The Golden Years” marks his first release of the year.
