George Collins releases a brand new single called “Saving the Best for Last” today!
This is the final song written for his upcoming album “Songs for Grown Ups”, set for release this summer.
A positive and upbeat anthem, “Saving the Best for Last” serves as a summary of the themes explored in preceding tracks and offers a hopeful conclusion; it acknowledges the passing of time and the transition into a new phase of life, where the lessons learned along the way can be applied to craft a fulfilling and joyful future.
Collins draws a lot of inspiration from music legends like The Beatles, Van Morrison, Springsteen and Cat Stevens, and in this song brings together a classic rock soul sound with a contemporary touch:
“I have always believed that, no matter my age, my best days and best work lie ahead of me – and this song attempts to express that belief. It’s the flip side of, and antidote to, “Stop the Sun” – leaving regrets behind and living fully and joyfully within the time limitations and constraints imposed by the human condition.
Plus, the track absolutely rocks and is loaded with hooks, including a 70s-style modulation to emphasize the “surprise” in the lyrics – one doesn’t hear many such modulations these days,” shares Collins.
Inspired by Edward Said’s “Thoughts on Late Style,” the overarching theme of this collection resonates deeply. Drawing parallels between iconic artists like Springsteen and Harrison, alongside timeless figures such as Bach, Yeats, Matisse, and Picasso.
These creators, who produced some of their most significant works later in life, serve as beacons of inspiration. Their journeys highlight the richness of experience and wisdom that accompanies ageing, suggesting that creativity knows no bounds and that each stage of life offers new opportunities for growth and expression.
“Saving the Best for Last” is truly an international musical collaboration, made possible by modern recording technology. Horns were arranged by Canadian musician Lou Pomanti who does horn arrangement and strings for Michael Buble.
Pomanti brought his A-game to this song, as well as his “A-Team” to the studio to record the arrangements, and Collins notes how fortunate he was to be able to work together with him.
“Saving the Best for Last” was produced, mixed and mastered by Sundown Sessions Studio, based in Nashville, Tennessee. Lead vocals by Collins were recorded at a studio in Prague, which were engineered by Derek Saxenmeyer of ENEM Productions.
Hailing from Washington D.C., and now based in Prague, Collins’ expresses many of his life experiences in his debut EP, “It’s Been a Long Time,” and in the upcoming album “Songs for Grown Ups” we see a recurring theme.
There are gentle nods to iconic artists such as The Beatles, Elvis Costello, Dire Straits and Tom Petty, as well as Otis Redding and James Brown.
And with a definite talent as both songwriter and musician, Collins shows yet again how he blends insightful narratives with catchy pop and soulful hooks.
Since wrapping up his financial career, Collins has been more creatively active than ever. He has written two novels and a screenplay, and he continues penning short stories, poems, and songs!
