Based on Ella Galvin’s previous two singles, “Spare Me” and “Do Not Disturb,” we gather that love and relationships are complicated. On “Spare Me,” the rising singer-songwriter pursued someone who did not reciprocate the same feelings for her on an emotional level. The situation brought about doubts and regret, but ultimately, she learned from the experience. With “Do Not Disturb,” the roles seem reversed. Ella takes us back to an interesting ‘situationship’ she had last year, when she felt both interested and uninterested in someone pursuing her. Her true feelings come out at the end of the track, as she leaves this person a heated voicemail. I guess, in the end, you can’t jump to conclusions or race ahead in relationships. Ella elaborates on this idea in her new single, “The Way It Goes.”
A feel-good pop rock anthem, “The Way It Goes” has us throwing caution to the wind. Throughout the track, Ella tries to decide whether she should go back to someone she’s moved on from or stay away. Backed by lively drums and guitar, Ella sings, “It’s just around the corner, baby / Let’s not leave it alone / That’s just the way it goes / Can’t fight this feeling of happiness / That’s just the way it goes / Can’t drown in tears from the loneliness,” ready to give into the moment. Her soulful vocals round out the playful and carefree spirit of the song, making it an expressive listen.
About “The Way It Goes,” Ella shares,
“‘The Way It Goes’ is a song about going back and forth between wanting to see your ex and not wanting to reopen those wounds again and risk being disappointed.”
You can listen to “The Way It Goes” on platforms like Apple Music, Spotify, and SoundCloud.
“The Way It Goes” is the title track from Ella’s upcoming debut EP, out June 14.
