Weekly Roundup May 6

Every Monday, we bring you a playlist filled with tracks the Melodic staff has been listening to on repeat. Hear some of our latest obsessions below:

Ax and the Hatchetmen- “Flagstaff” Containing sunny guitars, playful vocals, and sweet melodies, “Flagstaff” will encourage you to ditch all responsibilities and embrace the best that life has to offer. Throughout the track, we are treated to the spirit of a spontaneous getaway, as Ax and the Hatchetmen take us away to Flagstaff, Arizona, for a “run around the desert.” Axel sings, “Come on, let’s hit the road / I want you to be whole” and “We can taste the sand / Let’s book it down to Flagstaff / Just take my hand,” enjoying the thrill of the moment.

Gracie Abrams- “Risk” This song marks a turning point in Abrams’ perspective on her relationships and self-image. It starts with her contemplating her feelings for someone emotionally unavailable through an upbeat, acoustic guitar-driven melody. She expresses her fear of rejection, “Guess I’m just scared of you shootin’ it down / You can just talk, and I’ll stare at your mouth,” unable to resist the pull of this person.

Caroline Romano- “Doesn’t Matter” With “Doesn’t Matter,” Caroline goes from assessing the damage of past relationships, as we have heard on her previous singles, to taking on the possibility of more in a new one. This time, she is open to heartbreak and will recklessly follow where this relationship is going, even if she knows better. Caroline’s vocals are very calm and collected as she sings, “It doesn’t matter where you go on the weekends / If I’m going with you, love me deeper than we’re sinking,” choosing to listen to her heart over her head. Along with this different point of view, we also have a sound that is more stripped back, as steady drums and synth take the place of thrashing indie pop and angsty, pent-up vocals.

Lorelei- “Bear to Feel” Just like her music, Lorelei’s journey is one of self-discovery and empowerment. Through her artistry, she invites us to embrace our shadows, to confront the parts of ourselves we’d rather keep hidden. And in doing so, she reminds us that true strength lies in our ability to bear our souls to the world.
