Over the past few months, singer-songwriter Bellah Mae has been thriving in her ‘Sad Girl Era.’ She released singles like “Compatible” and “2053,” touching on feelings of longing, desire, and possible regret. Members of The Hot Ex Girlfriends Club, made up of fierce and loyal Bellah Mae fans, have really connected to these singles, so much so that they have helped promote buzz about Bellah and her new EP on social media. The EP, Never Waste A Heartbreak, is out June 7 and will feature more expressive and insightful tracks that flaunt Bellah’s storytelling abilities. For those who can’t wait that long for these new songs, Bellah is giving fans a treat with “Hell & Never Back,” which is the latest single from the project.
On “Hell & Never Back,” Bellah reflects on a relationship that was too good to be true. Throughout the happy-sad pop track, she describes the ways that she stayed by this person’s side against her own judgment and treated this person like an absolute angel. She sings, “How many times can the same heart break / Over the same somebody who did it?” wondering when the grieving period of the breakup will come to an end. As Bellah finds herself between admiration and criticism of this person, the mood of the track goes back and forth from lighter and darker pop colors and tones, making it a bittersweet anthem.
Telling us more about “Hell & Never Back,” Bellah explains,
“The day I wrote this song, I almost didn’t go to the studio and literally cried in the Uber on the way there. I was in Nashville and going through a rough heartbreak. I had zero expectations for the song I wrote that day, but it turned out to be this one because it was so personal and true to how I was feeling.”
You can listen to “Hell & Never Back” on platforms like Apple Music, SoundCloud, and Spotify.
Later this month, Bellah will head out on her headline ‘Never Waste A Heartbreak’ tour. You can find tickets and more information here. If you can’t make it out to the tour, Bellah will also be at TRNSMT Festival on July 12 and PennFest on July 20.
