Florida-based indie rock group flipturn has managed to establish a discography that effortlessly captures the feeling, sound, and essence of an endless summer. With music that sounds like sunny skies and waves hitting the shore, the Fernandina beach natives are your next favorite indie rock band.

Known for their energetic liveshows and self-reflective lyricism, flipturn is composed of Dillon Basse (vocals, guitar), Tristan Duncan (lead guitar), Madeline Jarman (bass), Devon VonBalson (drums), and Mitch Fountain (synthesizer, guitar). The group originally began to take shape when Basse, Duncan, and Jarman would practice playing together after school in Jarman’s garage. Flipturn released a string of singles and EP’s until VonBalson and Fountain soon joined the ranks. Throughout these formative years, the band watched as their streams and crowd sizes grew.

Drawing inspiration from a vast range of influences – everything from 2010’s rock to film scores – flipturn harnessed their own unique sound and made their musical debut in 2017 with their EP Heavy Colors, which features one of their most popular tracks to date, “Chicago.” They released four more EP’s until dropping their debut full length album Shadowglow in 2022. After this release, flipturn only continued to rise as a prominent indie rock outfit, soon touring with bands like Rainbow Kitten Surprise and eventually playing larger festivals. It can be seen from their career and discography that their rise to fame (and almost two million monthly Spotify listeners) didn’t come from record deals or major marketing campaigns. Rather, their success came from consistent live shows, an extensive and definitive body of work, and true passion for the craft from all members of the group.

Currently, flipturn is on a spring headlining tour with support from Richy Mitch and the Coal Miners. In July, flipturn and Petey will support Two Door Cinema Club on their summer tour. In light of this tour and to celebrate this year’s Record Store Day, Melodic Magazine will be holding a giveaway where one lucky winner will receive a pair of tickets to any date on Two Door Cinema Club’s upcoming summer tour, flipturn’s limited edition Shadowglow vinyl, Petey’s USA on vinyl, and other exclusive merch.
