Dub-pop artist Upbeat Lord released a new single “Light It Up,” with Apricot Ink. Their collaboration stems from a chance encounter at a New Years festival in 23/24. A departure from their previous disco-style reminiscent of 1980s new wave band Tom Tom Club, “Light it Up” ventures into the Little Dragon-esque musical landscape.
Led by Sara Flint, Apricot Ink is a new project by a group of Canberra-based musicians and producers. Flint’s sensual vocal delivery glided effortlessly throughout the track, adding a unique depth to the collaboration. “Light It Up” employs an intriguing dub bass and infectious melodies. A nod to Trip-Hop, the song explores this elusive nature of time, but is a vibrant exploration of artistry.
Upbeat Lord fuses mutant disco with canyon-shadow-running trip hop, moving into alt-R&B realm, with a dreamy musical backdrop.
