Two Face West Redefine Rock n’ Roll with Postcards from Lonely Places

Date:

Denver-based funk and blues rock trio, Two Face West, has achieved a significant milestone with the release of their debut album, Postcards from Lonely Places, marking the culmination of ten years of relentless touring and the production of three previous releases: an EP titled “By the Book” and two singles. Originally conceived as a five-song EP slated for an early 2020 release, the album expanded into a full-length project after the addition of Vince Carmellini to the lineup in 2019. The decision to include five additional songs transformed the EP into Two Face West’s inaugural LP, resulting in a collection of 11 studio tracks supplemented by a live rendition of their acclaimed 2017 piece, “Freedom.”

Despite the initial intentions for a concise EP, “Postcards from Lonely Places” presents a diverse array of styles and influences, reflecting the dynamic nature of the band’s songwriting and performances. From the soulful blues reminiscent of Stevie Ray Vaughn to the eclectic fusion of Zappa-esque arrangements with the groove of funk, the album offers a cohesive yet multifaceted musical journey. Carmellini’s bass work notably infuses tracks like “Ain’t Got a Clue” with infectious funk elements, while the album traverses through elements of junkyard country, folk, and classic blues, embodying a quintessentially American sound that showcases the band’s versatility and prowess.

Thematically, the album delves into the narratives of American lives, capturing the essence of everyday struggles, triumphs, and tragedies. Many of the songs draw inspiration from true events, such as “Moonshiners,” which explores the clandestine existence of two brothers on the Eastern plains of Colorado, and the poignant retelling of the Columbine Mine Massacre of 1927 from the perspective of one of the miners tragically lost in the incident. Through these evocative storytelling elements, “Postcards from Lonely Places” not only serves as a musical odyssey but also as a reflection of the human experience and the rich tapestry of American history.

As Two Face West embarks on this new chapter with their debut album, they continue to solidify their presence as a beloved fixture in the Colorado music scene. With their fiery blend of rock, blues, and funk, the band exemplifies the essence of Crankin’ Rock & Blues, captivating audiences with their electrifying performances and soulful compositions. “Postcards from Lonely Places” stands as a testament to their evolution as artists while honoring their roots, inviting listeners to join them on a heartfelt exploration of American life and the enduring spirit of Two Face West.
