Jaya Bremer is your new favorite dream-pop artist. After receiving a certificate in Jazz Studies from Victoria Music Conservatory in 2015, she immediately began performing as much as possible. The past few years she’s directed all of her attention toward her musical projects- the band Wild Child and her solo career. Her final push into pursuing her solo project was being selected for the Banff Centre Singer-Songwriter Residency.
“My Expectations” is the latest release from Bremer. She has a dreamy, synth-filled peek into Bremer’s mind. The lyrics are tough & vulnerable, displaying a melancholic sense of honesty surrounding her emotions towards herself seemingly letting someone down. The song, in itself, takes the listener on a journey through Jaya’s road to worthiness. To help visualize this, the production starts out minimal, and then builds up with each new verse and chorus. “My Expectations” also has a music video directed by Jaya Bremer herself, which adds an extra layer of visuals and intensity to the already beautifully dense track. Jaya Bremer’s sound is not only unique, it’s emotionally cathartic.
