Annabel Gutherz clings to the past on “Shame”

Date:

The amount of feelings that wash over you when starting a relationship is overwhelming. On some levels, you are experiencing love, joy, excitement. On others, you have fear, insecurities, doubts, guilt… A new person in your life is a lot to handle, and it’s natural to want to figure out their past and where they’re coming from. Who were they in a past relationship? Why did things end? Are you more or less than what they had?

On her new single, “Shame,” Annabel Gutherz can’t help but let her curious mind get the best of her. Accompanied by classic rock elements and modern pop sounds, the Montreal-based singer and songwriter keeps clinging to the past. Her folksy vocals take on a critical quality as she sings, “I’ll never have what you had with her / You might be mine now, but I can’t stop thinking about it” and “Did she laugh at your every joke? / Did you leave each other written notes?” She just can’t move forward in this new relationship, admitting, “Oh, what a shame / I’m riddled with questions I don’t ask / I can’t seem to let go of your past.” You can listen to it below.

Telling us more about “Shame,” Annabel explains,

“‘Shame’ is about the ruminations that can arise about your partner’s former relationships and the invasive fears that often emerge as a result.”

“Shame” is the first single of 2024 for Annabel, following the release of “Eclipse” and “Saturn’s Rings” last year. She continues to progress and share her talents as an artist with each single, introducing more fans to her distinct rock and pop sound. There is more to come from Annabel this year, so if you’re not familiar with her yet, you might want to take note now.

You can listen to “Shame” on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
