Daisybox and his bittersweet new single, “Someone Else”

Daisybox is the solo project started by Taylor Hottenstein in 2020. The Michigan-based artist creates a synthy alternative pop sound similar to artists such as Quarters of Change & Del Water Gap. His introduction to music was to use it as an outlet following the passing of his brother. Since then, he’s let himself express his emotions and creativity through his artistry. This small-town singer-songwriter has begun making a name for himself as an upcoming artist that should be on your radar.

“Someone Else” follows the story of a couple that’s held on to their love for too long. The song opens with light distortion on the vocals that sing “If I saw you out, out on the town with someone else, I don’t think I could keep it together,”  It’s a hazy, bittersweet track full of reverb and high-pitched synths. While the lyrics are melancholic, the instrumentation keeps things bright- complete with a fuzzy electric guitar solo right before the end chorus. “Someone Else” sounds like it would be in the prom scene of an 80’s film- and we’d be dancing along to it.
