Adrianne Blanks & The Oracles are thrilled to announce the release of their newest single, “The Zodiac,” which is out today!
This enchanting track, co-written by lead singer Adrianne and keyboardist Matt Blanks, transports listeners to the vibrant world of a 1950s underground beatnik jazz club called “The Zodiac,” as depicted in the classic film “Bell, Book, and Candle.”
With Adrianne’s captivating vocals leading the way, accompanied by Matt’s dynamic keys, Dillon Young’s expressive guitar, and Elias Grimsley’s precise drums, the band brings a mesmerizing blend of swing, pop, and jazz-tinged with psychedelic rock and soul influences which they call “Spellbinding Jazz & Rock.”
“I’ve loved the 1958 film, “Bell, Book, and Candle” for a long time. And when I first saw it I always thought the underground jazz club called “The Zodiac” in the movie would make a great setting for a music video. Then one day I thought, why don’t I write a song about “The Zodiac”!
I had a great time writing it with my bandmate and keyboard player, Matt Blanks. The song starts with a Latin feel for the storytelling part of the song, and as I explain that the trumpets drive you to madness the band begins an accelerando that takes us to surf rock. It’s a party!.” – Adrianne.
Hailing from Asheville NC, Adrianne Blanks & The Oracles are known for their ability to captivate audiences with their storytelling and theatricality, drawing inspiration from themes of witchcraft, deep sea monsters, and urban mystery.
Inspired by the vibrant aesthetics of Jacques Demy and the nostalgic charm of the 1960s, the dynamic range of sound in “The Zodiac” is akin to the lush orchestrations of a Bond film together with gritty rhythms of vintage surf rock. Other influences include The Zombies, The Beatles, and Serge Gainsbourg to name just a few.
From festivals to speakeasies, their performances leave an indelible impression, merging diverse musical genres with mystical narratives.
Adrianne’s latest music video and song release, “The Holly & The Ivy,” recently earned the prestigious award for Best Costumes & Wardrobe at the @musicvideoasheville2023. The mesmerizing piece has also garnered attention from Enchanted Living (@faeriemagazine), The Wild Hunt, Pagan Pages, The Missing Witches Podcast, and The Cosmic Cousins podcast.
Following her debut with ‘Words Are Spells’ in 2022, where Adrianne showcased her talents as a lead vocalist and songwriter, “The Zodiac” marks her second single release. Originally from Chicago, Ms. Blanks started her music career in opera where she performed lead roles in Le Nozze di Figaro and The Magic Flute. She has also sung with The Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Chicago Opera Theater. As well as maintaining an active career singing, Adrianne has also been in the top 20 most requested songs on Buzz Radio Asheville and has been interviewed on Asheville FM.
