ALIAS gets us grooving to “Truth or Trust”

ALIAS truth or trust

French artist ALIAS began exploring his musical alter-ego during the pandemic. He put out his debut EP, It’s Not Funny So Stop Smilin’ as a way to bring some fun into his community despite the state of the world at the time. ALIAS bends the rules to create a sound that’s loud, electric, and unlike anything you’ve heard before. After attending conservatories for Jazz, he moved to New York, and then settled in Montreal. There, he was chosen to have his work placed in HBO Max’s Big Little Lies and Sharp Objects. ALIAS is an artist who’s personality is so prominently placed within his work. His upcoming project, EMBRACE CHAOS, will undoubtedly be his most colorful display yet.

“Truth or Trust” is the latest single off of the new album. It’s a combination of Mother Mother & Ty Segall, multiplied by 1,000. This track has some bright synths, loud bass, and unique vocal ad-libs. The lyrics pose a question for the performer, asking if he should stay true to himself or continue his work as a full-time musician. The somewhat dark theme of existentialism gets woven into the funky, buzzy synths and background vocals done by Meggie Lennon & Virginie B. This song is chaotic, yet clean. If you like LCD Soundsystem, hyperpop, or just need a song to drown out the rest of the world in your headphones, give “Truth or Trust” a listen or two.
