Speelburg Takes You to a New World in “New Earth”

Date:

I’m going back for seconds and thirds on this funky-fresh ditty.

Bathed in vinyl warmth and scratches, “New Earth” is an immaculately produced, irresistible, and coy indie-pop-bop with a deeper message. One could listen to the track 3-4 times without realizing it’s making a commentary on pollution, waste, and the means of which we use to avoid the mess that we as humans create.

It’s a new age. We see the inevitable dystopia that awaits us and our posterity for generations to come if we continue consuming at the rate that we do as a society. We must find somewhere else. Somewhere else to ruin. This is not just the lament of a jaded music reviewer, it’s the narrative gist of this song.

Though the message is dark, it’s presented in a happy-go-lucky, “c’est la vie” style that does not weigh on the listener. The bouncy drums and percussion make you dance, not despair. The fun interludes with sample cuts and synthesizers make you dream. The warm bass makes you feel like you’re on a tropical (unpolluted) beach. “New Earth” is a delicious dichotomy.

The mixing can’t be praised enough. Nothing is harsh or out of place. All the elements melt together to create an undeniable vibe. Jingly guitars, tape fuzzed vocals, “New Earth” really has it all.

Bounce along to this bop and dance till we drown in the trash we create. This is the anthem.
