Gareth Dunlop is relieved to be over an ex on “I Don’t Feel You”

Date:

Over the years, Belfast singer-songwriter Gareth Dunlop has been moving people with his music both on and off the stage, as well as on and off the screen. Gareth’s music has been featured in shows like Nashville and This Is Us, has charmed its way onto the big screen in films like Safe Haven and The Best of Me, and has turned up in ads for Disney and Subaru. When it comes to performing, Gareth has supported artists like Van Morrison, Stereophonics, and Snow Patrol, to name a few. He gets over 90,000 listeners each month on Spotify alone, and one of his biggest hits is “Wrap Your Arms Around Me” from Safe Haven, which is nearing 5 million streams. With so much to his name already, it would seem like Gareth should slow down a little, but no. He has kicked 2024 off with a bang by releasing “Church” from his upcoming album, Welcome to the House of I Don’t Know, due out in the summer. Gareth is now quickly following up the single while continuing to introduce us to the new album with “I Don’t Feel You.”

Thinking back to that New Year’s Eve party or gathering you attended, did you come across an old ex? If you did, then “I Don’t Feel You” was made to soundtrack that moment. Containing Gareth’s soulful and commanding vocals, bright guitars, groovy rhythms, and lively synth, “I Don’t Feel You” is about embracing and celebrating the indifference you may feel towards someone you used to love. He is relieved that he is finally over this person, which comes through in the lines, “You don’t send me spinning like in the beginning / There’s nothing within me for you / I don’t feel you anymore.” You can check it out below.

Telling us more about “I Don’t Feel You,” Gareth explains,

“I started writing ‘I Don’t Feel You’ four years ago after one of the greatest moments I’ve ever not felt. I walked into a bar knowing a ‘certain someone who I was once pretty hung up on’ was there. I thought it was going to be a tough night with weird feelings, and it was none of that. An encounter of sheer blissful nothingness.”

You can listen to “I Don’t Feel You” and “Church” on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music. Welcome to the House of I Don’t Know is set to drop June 14.

Catch Gareth live on March 12 and 13 supporting Damien Dempsey here.
