Canadian-based singer Dover Lynn Fox has recently released her latest single, “Winter Son,” more than a year after releasing her debut EP, New Seasons. Lynn Fox blends 1960s and 1970s music with indie, folk and rock sounds.
“Winter Son” embodies the indie-pop genre, where Lynn Fox employed a light and earthy tone in the verses before building up in the chorus to showcase her high register. During the trials of trauma, Lynn Fox takes a moment to reminisce while she grapples with her father’s cancer diagnosis. Accompanied by her seamless transitions are the strumming of a sweeping guitar and a rhythmic drum beat.
Initially aiming to convey a sense of sadness and fear similar to the cold and harsh nature of the winter season, the song evolved and has a carefree strength to it. “Winter Son” now reflects all the places and people that are meaningful to the singer, breaching her connection to positivity, connection and faith.
