Thea Dora may prove to be our next hyperpop princess with “Collected”

Date:

With the pop genre splitting off into hundreds of little niches, hyperpop is one that only a select few seem to talk about. However, that does not stop budding artists from breaking into the scene with flying colors.

Thea Dora is one of those artists. Hailing from Copenhagen the 25-year-old artist began her songwriting journey with songs on the guitar, but soon found that she wanted to produce.

With some vocal inflections that draw similarities to Grimes, Thea Dora’s music still manages to pave her own path through this often-redundant genre. The glitchy sound of a handful of the track’s embellishments draw parallels to the work of PinkPantheress, notably the song “Just for Me.”

Given that this is Thea Dora’s debut single, it’s quite impressive that her sound is as distinct and complex as this single shows it to be. It’s danceable, dreamy, and, as Thea Dora herself calls it, “an ode to letting people in and stop overthinking.”

Her vocals are vulnerable, yet strong, and giving an edge to the pop sound that she continued to return to after she began experimenting with songwriting. Alongside Thea Dora, “Collected” was co-produced by Ronni Vindahl, who has worked with the likes of Kendrick Lamar and fellow Dane MØ. Such a broad spectrum of genres in Vindahl’s repertoire suggests that Thea Dora will experiment herself with a plethora of different sounds and textures.
