Great Good Fine Ok are ready to let go on “Breathing”

Date:

The concept of existing is a hard one to nail down. It seems like it should be the easiest thing to just be in the world, but more often than not, it is difficult to do so – especially on a day-to-day basis. For their upcoming EP, EXIST, Great Good Fine Ok tap into what it means to really live and exist, especially when placed under challenging circumstances. The project is set to contain “the most GGFO stuff” that the synth-pop duo has ever created, full of colors and complex ideas. They are growing, maturing, and living life to the fullest, which has come through on previous singles like “Will We Make It?” and “Blame.” For their new single, “Breathing,” the duo expands on an essential part of getting through each day, which involves stepping back and letting go.

On “Breathing,” Great Good Fine Ok remember the importance of pausing and reflecting. Throughout the track, we hear about the pressure of finding answers and making things right. How do you know what to do? What if it makes more sense to give up? With the encouragement of funky riffs and chill beat, the duo decides to “take control” and “count to 10,” letting this moment of clarity take precedence. This scenario is expertly played out in the music video below, which was directed by Zebulon Griffin (Jonah Kagen, UPSAHL). In the video, we witness an apocalyptic situation, complete with asteroids falling from the sky. Even with mayhem happening outside, Great Good Fine Ok continue with their boring day job as usual. An opportunity to escape presents itself, however, and the guys take it all the way through to the other side.

About “Breathing,” the duo share,

“Our favorite mantra is that ‘it’s not what happens to you, but how you handle it.’ In a world so fraught with anxiety triggers, we’re told that the first and easiest step is to just…breathe. However, it can be hard when there are wars happening, human rights are being threatened, folks are claiming to see aliens, and the ground is metaphorically and literally shaking. Over the past few years, each of us has either become an expert at breathing through the hard times, or we’ve struggled. This song is a reminder to give up trying to have control and keep on breathing.”

You can listen to “Breathing” on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and SoundCloud.

EXIST is set to drop March 22.
