80s synth-rock is reignited with Chaperones’ latest single, “Torch”

Date:

Virginia-based duo, Victoria Backle and Sean Spencer Chaperones’ release “Torch”, their latest single. The 80s pop-rock inspired track is just one of the songs on their forthcoming debut album, 13 Walls.

“Torch” touches on the topics of addiction and depression to the backing of electric guitars and dramatic vocals. The single includes a handful of fire-related metaphors, all of which relay back to the song’s aptly named title. One of the song’s standouts are in its instrumental breakdowns; the first after the second verse and the second right before the last two lines of lyrics. The second techno-rock hybrid breakdown includes a mini electric guitar solo and emphasizes the line “We were made of paper before we ever burned.” The line signifies inevitably, and saying it again proves the point.

Victoria Backle and Sean Spencer were previously bandmates in Azure Wolf, allowing them to have an artistic and musical connection that led to the creation of Chaperones. The pair is adamant in writing, recording, and self-producing their debut album and take pride in doing so. 13 Walls will be available on December 18, 2023 and you can listen to “Torch” here!
