Royals put a pop punk spin on Ariana Grande’s “Santa Tell Me”

Date:

It is not the holiday season without festive music in the air. The sleigh bells, the heavenly choirs, the low and steady sounds of classic crooners or the upbeat and merry sounds of pop divas… There is a song for everyone out there, and their nostalgic harmonies or fun melodies help make the season complete. Granted, some holiday favorites are overplayed, even if they are incredible songs. All they need is an injection of new life, a new personality, someone to come along and tell the story in a fresh way.

This year, UK pop punk act Royals are up to the challenge as they take on Ariana Grande’s “Santa Tell Me.” The band have been keen to do a Christmas song for the past couple of years, and this year, they finally decided to cover what they call “one of the best modern Christmas songs out there.” For their cover, they maintain the original’s catchy melodies and festive splashes of sleigh bells but incorporate their punchy pop punk flair. Over the high-energy drum and guitar work, lead vocalist Luke Smithson sings, “Santa, tell me / If you’re really there / Don’t make me fall in love again if she won’t be here next year,” making the lyrics his own. You can check it out below.

Telling us more about the cover, Luke shares,

“It’s something we’ve wanted to do for a couple years now, and we knew when we were ready to bring some extra Christmas spirit to the pop punk scene that ‘Santa Tell Me’ would be the one. It’s a banger in its own right, so it felt like the perfect canvas to lay our style over. We’re so stoked for everyone to hear it!”

You can listen to “Santa Tell Me” on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
