Mary Shelley, the genre-defying ensemble hailing from Brooklyn, delivers a unique fusion of punk music infused with danceable rhythms. A group of eclectic, instrument-swapping musicians, Mary Shelley seamlessly blends post-punk rhythms with elements of dance, disco beats, shoegaze, hip-hop, and more. Their influences span across generations, encompassing sounds and styles that range from IDLES to Talking Heads, Radiohead to Kendrick Lamar, and Dolly Parton to Viagra Boys.

Today the group debuts their brilliant new single “She’s a Star,” which showcases the essence of the band perfectly.  This track dives into the band’s distinctive ability to seamlessly blend influences, creating a unique fusion of punk music with irresistible tones.

From the opening notes, it’s evident that Mary Shelley is a collective of musical virtuosos. “She’s A Star” unfolds with post-punk rhythms at its core, but it quickly takes unexpected turns, incorporating elements of dance, disco beats, shoegaze, and swirling guitars. The result is a sonic tapestry that defies expectations and keeps listeners on their toes throughout the entire journey.

The instrumentation in “She’s A Star” is a testament to Mary Shelley’s eclectic influences. The band skillfully navigates through various sonic landscapes, and their commitment to breaking down musical barriers and embracing a wide spectrum of sounds is unstoppable.

Sam Pinson of Mary Shelley shares of the release:

“The whole song is a metaphor for pouring your heart out. I think in today’s world there’s so much talk about how rewarding and important it is to be open and honest, true to yourself. But what if doing that is the very reason a relationship is ruined? The character in the story is standing up against their own impulse to close themselves off to the world, and questioning that Bukowski meme ‘Find what you love and let it destroy you,’ because it did. I promise the song is a lot more fun to listen to than this explanation…”

What sets “She’s A Star” apart is not only its unique nature but also the infectious energy that radiates from every note. The danceable rhythms invite listeners to move, while the unexpected twists and turns in the arrangement keep the experience fresh and exciting. Mary Shelley’s fearless approach to creativity is evident in this track, where they scrap rules in favor of pursuing their artistic impulses.

The electric four-piece embraces a rule-breaking approach, prioritizing creative impulse to ensure that each new composition stands distinct from its predecessors. This commitment to innovation has resulted in a surprise-packed catalog that captivates and retains the attention of their rapidly growing fanbase.

The distinctive energy characteristic of Mary Shelley’s music not only resonates in their recordings but serves as the driving force behind their electrifying live performances, drawing dedicated fans to venues, theaters, basements, and backyards alike.

The undeniable dynamism of Mary Shelley’s live shows is a testament to the band’s ability to connect with audiences on a visceral level. From New York to the UK, their performances invite attendees to both move and be moved, as the band delivers songs that pack a punch while challenging preconceptions. Mary Shelley explores the darker facets of human nature with a dose of self-deprecating humor, creating a multifaceted experience that ranges from joyous amplifiers-leaping and crowd-moshing to poignant moments of hand-holding during intense musical interludes.

In “She’s A Star,” Mary Shelley continues to solidify their reputation as trailblazers in the music scene. The band’s willingness to explore diverse influences and craft a sound that is uniquely their own is a testament to their artistic integrity. “She’s A Star” is not just a song; it’s a sonic adventure that captivates, surprises, and leaves an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to experience Mary Shelley’s magic.
