Whether you’re a fan of Journey’s old-school sound, or pop powerhouses like Billie Eilish, Georgia Lines‘ new, timeless single “Romeo” is sure to satisfy your taste in one way or the other.
The Aotearoa artist is New Zealand’s latest rising pop star, who in 2022 was nominated for the country’s Best Pop Artist, alongside Benee and Lorde. Rising to the challenge of her nomination, she is set to embark on a US tour this month.
“Romeo” presents a drum track that is slightly sinister at the start – reminiscent of Billie Eilish’s 2019 single “when we all fall asleep, where do we go?” This particular single, and its album of the same name, were defining pieces of the media of that time, which foreshadows a bright future for the music that Lines has yet to release.
Keeping to inspiration from the past, “Romeo” is a synth-pop piece, a nod to the music of the 1980s. Lines’ new release is somewhat of a modern power ballad, with a chorus that gives Journey’s “Separate Ways” a run for its money.
Georgia Lines’ discography is the perfect amalgamation of old and new pop music, opening up a world of new opportunities, and defining a new trajectory for the future of pop music.
