AURORA begins a new era with “Your Blood”

Date:

For Norwegian alt-pop artist AURORA, connection plays a big part in her career. Without the connection brought on at festivals, tours, or through new music releases, AURORA would not be where she is today. Since signing to Decca Records/Glassnote nearly ten years ago, she has sold over a million albums, obtained over 12 million monthly listeners, has accumulated 10 billion streams, and has gone viral on TikTok, showing that the connection she has with her fans is unique and irreplaceable. She plans on reaching out to her fans in a new way on November 16 through the release of her first book, The Gods We Can Touch, which shares its name with AURORA’s latest studio album from last year. Before the book drops, however, she is treating fans to her first new music since The Gods We Can Touch (the album) with “Your Blood.”

On “Your Blood,” AURORA speaks to the complexity of the human soul. After a haunting riff in the beginning, AURORA’s blissful yet frail vocals take over and set the mood for the pensive track. She gives us lines like, “Do you hear the echo / Begging you to let go,” “I refuse to die,” and “We are dust,” the otherworldly feel from these words coming in strong. It makes us wonder about human connection and existence, two themes that are familiar in AURORA’s music. After the lively beat, synth, and electric guitar kick in, the mood becomes brighter, but the lyrics remain profound. You can check it out below.

About “Your Blood,” AURORA claims,

“The world is always bleeding. And you never know what is going on under people’s skin. I think it’s only when we reach out to each other that we understand what compassion and beauty we are capable of as human beings. Even if we can’t understand what people are going through, we should still try. If we don’t, what is a life truly worth? Sometimes addressing the pain, your own or the pain of the world, hurts so much it feels like dying. But in truth, I believe it is then we are born. Your blood. My blood. Our blood.”
